Democracy

I’ve been a member of the League of Women Voters for 30 years. I’ve registered voters, moderated forums, watched polls, and lobbied. I can say with certainty: There is no evidence that widespread voter fraud is happening. Our voting processes are secure. Yet, we have a former President claiming that his election was stolen.

Spreading the false belief that our voting system is vulnerable is the worst possible thing for democracy.

Republicans have been attacking democracy and suppressing the vote in order to win. By preventing same-day registration, they are blocking voters from registering. By implementing early counting and removing drop boxes, they are blocking absentee voters. Voters should choose their representatives – politicians shouldn’t choose their voters.

I support making voting easier, not harder. I support implementing a permanent way to draw fair maps. I support restoring power to the Governor and Attorney General, instead of pushing constitutional amendments aimed at taking power from those elected by the people.
